The Department of Intellectual Property of Romero Arteta Ponce Abogados – RAP – is dedicated to protecting IP rights in Ecuador. The Firm was founded in the year 1950 and has become one of Ecuador´s top law firms, with an excellent track record.

In 1973, we determinated the need to extend the legal practice to highly specialized subjects in the area of Intellectual Property, which is why we created a department exclusively dedicated to management and advising for our clients in areas related to trademarks, patents, copyrights, new varieties of plants, and in general, everything to do with Industrial and Intellectual Property.

DR. GUSTAVO ROMERO

Born in Quito, Ecuador, on September 30, 1955; admitted to the bar in 1983, Ecuador.

Education: Universidad Católica del Ecuador (Lawyer and Doctor of Law, 1983). Author of “The Leasing Contract,” 1983. Co-author of “Negotiating in Ecuador,” 1994. Author of: “Negotiating in the Petroleum and Gas Industry in Ecuador,” 1994 and “Negotiating in the Mining Industry in Ecuador,” 1996.

Positions held: Member of the Board of Directors and legal adviser to the Ecuadorian-American Chamber of Commerce (1992-2006); Member of the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorian Association for Intellectual Property, AEPI (President, 2003-2005); Member of the International Association for the protection of Intellectual Property, APPI (President 1998-2000), Ecuadorian Chapter. Member of Romero Arteta Ponce Abogados since 1973, made partner in 1983, and has been acting as managing partner from 1985 to the present day. Honorary Consul of the Republic of Estonia in Ecuador since 2002.

Memberships: Quito Bar Association, the Ecuadorian Association of Intellectual Property, Association of Industrial Property; International Bar Association IBA; International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property AIPPI; Asia Pacific Lawyers Association: Licensing Executive Society LES; Inter-American Federation of Lawyers; International Association of Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN); Ecuadorian-American Chamber of Commerce.
